The War of 1812 was a major part of history in America’s battle to become independent. This was the United States â€Å"Second War for Independence† from the British. After the War of 1812 there were major consequences that would change the lives of the Americans forever. Both industry and foreign relations were heavily impacted after the war. Industry flourished with new technology, the idea of interchangeable parts and the cotton gin. The cotton gin saved valuable time and interchangeable parts made mass manufacturing easier for things like guns and shoes. Foreign relations also improved with the Monroe Doctrine in 1823 and the Manifest Destiny in 1840. (Tell me how briefly, so one brief example each) In the 1800’s the United States economy was thriving due to an increase in domestic trade and mass manufacturing, while foreign relations improved, and a friendship with Great Britain was made. Prior to the War of 1812 America attempted to remain neutral regarding the war between Great Britain and France. George Washington, who was president at the time, even created the Neutrality Proclamation in an effort to keep the young nation out of conflicts abroad. However, persistent harassment from Great Britain and France at sea, including trade restrictions and impressment, caused America’s neutrality to be threatened. Both countries did this by blockading ports of trade and by creating commercial sanctions.
